Timed Sexual Intercourse (TSI) And Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)

In case of irregular or infrequent ovulation, the latter can be monitored with ultrasound scans and blood tests. The couple will be advised on Timed Intercourse (TSI) at the time of ovulation. This treatment is also suitable for other problems e.g. unexplained infertility.

To improve the success of TSI, the ovaries can be stimulated using a small dose of fertility drugs to produce a couple of eggs. This should be under close monitoring to reduce the risk of multiple pregnancy.

To further boost the chances of conception, we prefer to combine controlled ovarian stimulation with insemination into the uterine cavity (Intra-Uterine Insemination “IUI”). The semen sample is washed, filtered off the dead and abnormal sperm and centrifuged to concentrate the active normal sperm in the final preparation. The latter is injected high into the womb via a special thin catheter.

Studies showed that the pregnancy rate is higher if IUI is combined with controlled ovarian stimulation that IUI in natural cycle or ovarian stimulation alone.

Donor sperm can be used if the male partner testicles do not produce sperm or if the male partner has poor sperm parameters and the couple prefer not to have ICSI treatment. All donors are properly screened for genetic diseases, chromosomal abnormalities and infectious diseases e.g. Hepatitis and HIV.
