Fetal Anomaly Scan


Most major anomalies can now be diagnosed as early as 12 weeks including Anencephaly and kidney problems either due to obstruction , hydronephrosis or abnormal kidney’s. However more subtle abnormalities such as Spina bifida, Hydrocephalous or limb abnormality may only become obvious after 18 weeks .

A full anomaly scan is carried out usually between 18-20 weeks, which includes examination of the skull, face, palate, neck, chest, heart, stomach, diaphragm, bowel, kidney’s, umbilicus, bladder, upper and lower limbs. In addition, the heartbeat, placental position and fetal growth are checked.
